Vernon County Over 50 Announces Trip to Warrens Cranberry Tour
Vernon County Over 50 is sponsoring a spectacular event on Thursday, October 16. Board the bus in Viroqua and travel to Warrens, WI and experience an amazing 1.5 hour tour of the Wetherby Cranberry Company. Wetherby is a family owned & operated cranberry marsh that was founded in 1903 and began packing fresh cranberries in 1905. Today, 3rd generation growers, Jim and Nodji Van Wychen, their (4th generation) son & son-in-law operate the marsh. Wetherby’s gift shop offers fresh & dried cranberries as well as cranberry wine.
Learn to appreciate the hard work ethic needed to grow this crop and realize the quality of life that exists on a cranberry marsh. There will be the opportunity to walk down into a cranberry bed (without water in it) and see firsthand how cranberries are grown.
After the tour, the plan is to travel to Discovery Cranberries & Café for lunch and browse the history of Wisconsin’s cranberry industry in the museum & gift shop. This facility was recently sold so, regardless, there will be a stop for lunch.
The cost of $32 includes round trip bus transportation from Bethel Home in Viroqua, 1.5 hour narrated Cranberry Bog tour, museum viewing & tips. Lunch on your own.
