Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today
Viroqua Area Schools serves approximately 1,000 students across six schools including Viroqua Elementary School, Viroqua Middle School, Viroqua High School, and three public charter schools: Viroqua Area Montessori Charter School, Laurel High School, and Vernon County Better Futures High School. Viroqua is also home to a Waldorf School and the Youth Initiative High School that follow the Waldorf model of education.
Viroqua Area Schools
Viroqua Elementary, Middle, and High schools serve students in grades K-12 and offer a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities, including sports, music and drama programs, and clubs. The award-winning schools have a strong focus on college and career readiness with a variety of programs and resources to help students prepare for their future including a large number of advanced placement (AP) courses and dual enrollment courses with Western Technical College.
The Viroqua Area Montessori School (VAMS) is a public charter school that shares a campus with the Viroqua Elementary School and Viroqua Middle School. VAMS offers seven multi-age classrooms serving 4K through eighth-grade students following a traditional Montessori model.
Laurel High School is a public charter school serving students in grades 9-12. The curriculum at Laurel High School includes a variety of subjects such as math, science, English, social studies, and world languages. The school also offers advanced placement (AP) courses for students who wish to pursue college-level coursework and many independent studies that allow the students to explore their individual interests. In addition to traditional academic programs, Laurel High School offers several extracurricular activities for students to explore their interests and develop their skills. These activities include athletics, music, drama, and clubs focused on topics such as science, technology, and community service.
Better Futures High School is a public, alternative high school that is part of the Viroqua Area School District. The school serves students from four Vernon county schools who may have struggled in a traditional high school setting and offers a more personalized approach to learning. The school offers a more individualized approach with smaller class sizes and more one-on-one attention from teachers. They also have a focus on experiential learning with opportunities for internships, job shadowing, service-learning projects, and employment.
