Day of Gardens & Music

July 11 @ 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The 70+ year young Sparta Garden Club will hold their biennial Tour of Gardens on Friday, July 11 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. This event dovetails with a concert sponsored by Sparta community boosters The Shovelmen.

Sparta, WI has dozens of public gardens; some hidden in plain sight, others are tucked away “secret gardens”. Typically, garden tours feature private home gardens impeccably groomed for their one day in the spotlight. This year attendees will explore 30 public gardens located in two concentrated areas within Sparta. Featured gardens range from “baby gardens” barely out of the planning stage, to established gardens at their peak, as well as older gardens, ready for a refresh. Tour planners believe it is important to show various stages in the lifecycle of gardens to inspire people to look at their own landscape from a fresh perspective. Perhaps attendees will find inspiration to create a new bed, the courage to move a plant that is struggling in its current location or even just the motivation to prune an overgrown hedge. They also hope it will increase the overall understanding of how much work, love, and fun goes into gardening – with rewards we can enjoy each step along the journey.

The 2025 self-guided tour starts at the Sparta Barney Community Center (1000 E Montgomery). Admission is $10.00 and includes a detailed guidebook with locations and information about each garden.

Attendees finish their garden tour on Water Street in Downtown Sparta at Creekside Park garden where Classic Country Polka Fusion Band “Daddy’s Girls – Round Two” will play from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Bring a chair and enjoy the evening! There will be food and beverages for purchase.
