Chimney Swifts
July 11 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
FreeThursday, July 11th at 5:30pm in the McIntosh Memorial Library Lobby. Join us to hear Dave Krier discuss the life history of the chimney swift including local swifts, and updates on local surveys of swifts. He will also discuss the Vernon County Historical Society Swift Night Out planned for August 10th.
The Chimney swift originally nested in hollow trees. However, in modern times, it predominantly chooses chimneys or other man-made structures for nesting. During late summer, impressive flocks of hundreds or even thousands of these birds may gather and roost together in a single large chimney, creating a spectacular sight as they swirl overhead near dusk. Learn about the unique opportunities we have here in Viroqua to have these birds call our city home.
